Hair Myths That Messed Us Up (And What to Do Instead)

We’re here to set the record straight.

Because not everything your mom, BFF, or YouTube circa 2008 told you was true…

We’ve all fallen for a hair myth or two. Some of them were harmless, others… not so much. From skipping conditioner to believing purple shampoo is a cure-all, we're setting the record straight so you can care for your hair like a pro.

Ready to unlearn, relearn and glow up? Let’s bust some myths:

Trims don’t make hair grow faster, your scalp handles that. But they do stop split ends from creeping up, which means less breakage and more visible length. So yes, regular trims = key to long, healthy hair

❌ “Trimming your hair makes it grow faster”

Truth: Trimming doesn’t speed up hair growth (your scalp’s in charge of that), but it does prevent split ends from traveling up the hair shaft. That means less breakage and more visible length over time. So yes, regular trims are still essential if you’re chasing long, healthy hair.

What to do instead: Get a trim every 8–12 weeks to maintain strong, healthy ends while growing your hair out.

❌ “Oily hair doesn’t need conditioner”

Truth: Just because your scalp’s oily doesn’t mean your ends aren’t thirsty. Skipping conditioner can actually cause more oil production as your scalp overcompensates for lack of moisture.

What to do instead: Apply conditioner mid-length to ends only, avoiding the scalp. Use a lightweight formula if you're worried about buildup.

❌ “Purple shampoo is all you need to stay blonde”

Truth: We love purple shampoo for toning, but it’s not a one-size-fits-all fix. Without hydration and protein treatments, your blonde can still turn brittle, brassy, or just plain tired.

What to do instead: Use purple shampoo once a week and incorporate moisture and strengthening treatments regularly (psst… we have plenty in-salon… just ask!).

This used to be true—back when box dye and old-school bleach ruled. But with today’s formulas and the right stylist, color can actually improve how your hair feels (with proper care)

❌ “You don’t need salon shampoo”

Truth: Salon shampoos aren’t just fancier bottles. They’re formulated with higher-quality ingredients and made to protect your color, balance your scalp, and support your hair goals.

What to do instead: Think of your haircare like skincare. Invest in the good stuff to keep your hair looking (and feeling) amazing between appointments.

❌ “Coloring your hair will ruin it”

Truth: This one used to be true. Back when bleach and box dye were everyone’s go-to. But today, with modern formulas and a skilled stylist? Color can actually improve how your hair feels with the right care.

What to do instead: Trust a licensed pro (hi, that’s us!), follow a proper home care routine, and keep up with your glosses and treatments.

❌ “If a product burns, it means it’s working”

Truth: That tingling or burning sensation? That’s usually irritation, not effectiveness. If your scalp’s on fire, something’s off.

What to do instead: Always patch test, and let your stylist know if something feels off. There’s no gain in pain when it comes to healthy hair.

Let’s leave the outdated hair myths where they belong. In the past. Taking care of your hair doesn’t have to be confusing, and we’re here to help you cut through the noise with real education, pro tips, and custom treatments that actually work. Whether you're trying to grow your hair, maintain your color, or finally understand what your hair actually needs, we've got you.

Next time you’re in the salon, just ask! We love sharing what we know, recommending the right treatments, and making sure you leave with hair that feels as good as it looks. You deserve to feel confident in your routine. We’re here to make that happen.

With gratitude and love,
Jasmin x
